Public Interest Program Fellows Update
New 2008-09 Fellowship Program Starts Soon
By Kathleen E. Reilly
PIP Director
PP55 is nearing the end of a successful placement process and after reviewing over 120 applications from highly qualified candidates and over 135 open fellowship positions, 59 recent Princeton University graduates have been selected as Princeton Project 55 Fellows for 2008-09. Fellows will be placed in cities across the country, including Boston, Chicago, New York, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington, DC.
The 2008-09 Fellows will take on a substantial amount of responsibility on the job, ranging from counseling 7th-12th graders at Prep for Prep in New York City, to serving as the Marketing Director at the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues in Chicago, to researching healthy weight initiatives at the CAVU Foundation in Boston, to researching and preventing threats to ocean ecosystems at Environmental Defense in San Francisco. New fellows will attend a series of orientation seminars.
In honor of our newest class of fellows, PP55 will be hosting a Welcome Reception and Orientation in Princeton on May 16-17. Fellows will have the opportunity to interact with alumni and learn the knowledge and tools to prepare for their fellowship year and for civic leadership.
Throughout the year, PP55 alumni volunteers, partner organizations, supervisors and mentors will expose the fellows and each other to systemic issues and solutions, professional skills, and leadership development opportunities. If you are interested in joining a local committee, planning a seminar for fellows, and/or mentoring a fellow, please contact Kathleen Reilly, PIP Director, at pip@project55.org.
